Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reopen land borders in order to improve food security. He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, in Kano on Monday.
Expressing concern over the challenging economic conditions faced by Nigerians, Governor Kabir-Yusuf emphasized that reopening the borders would help combat inflation and reduce food prices. He commended the President’s efforts in the national food initiative, particularly recognizing Kano as a key location for the initiative’s launch, which he believes will alleviate food scarcity if effectively implemented.
Governor Kabir-Yusuf highlighted the immediate need for border reopening to ensure food availability and affordability for the population. He also praised the customs’ food distribution program while advocating for measures to prevent diversion of essential commodities.
The governor assured continued support to customs to facilitate their efficient mandate execution. Meanwhile, Comptroller-General Adeniyi emphasized the importance of collaboration between customs and the Kano community, emphasizing NCS’s dedication to enhancing operational processes and engaging with stakeholders.
Adeniyi reaffirmed customs’ commitment to addressing food insecurity and economic challenges in the country during interactions with business community members and other stakeholders in Kano.
