The ad hoc committee established by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to scrutinize the finances, loans, and contracts awarded during former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s tenure has submitted its findings.
During the plenary on Wednesday, committee chairman Henry Zacharia reported that many loans obtained under El-Rufai’s administration were misused and that due process was often ignored. Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, received the report and revealed that N423 billion had been misappropriated, leaving the state with significant liabilities.
The committee recommended the investigation and prosecution of El-Rufai and several of his cabinet members by security and anti-corruption agencies for abuses including the improper awarding of contracts, diversion of public funds, and money laundering.
Additionally, the committee advised the immediate suspension of the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, and the chairman of the state universal basic education board, both of whom held positions during El-Rufai’s administration.
