A Federal High Court in Abuja has rescheduled the hearing of a lawsuit filed by the impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu, against Governor Godwin Obaseki and others to June 28.
The lawsuit seeks to declare Shaibu’s impeachment as unlawful, illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void. During Wednesday’s proceedings, Justice James Kolawole Omotoso postponed the hearing due to the absence of some defendants.
Lead counsel for Phillip Shaibu, Ayotunde Ogunleye SAN, informed the court that the case was initially set for June 3 but was affected by an organized labor strike.
Ogunleye highlighted an earlier order requiring all parties to file and exchange their processes for an expedited hearing. Due to the absence of some defendants and their legal representation, an adjournment was sought and granted.
