France’s three main political factions are set to face off Tuesday night in a highly anticipated TV debate as voters brace for a divisive parliamentary election.
According to AFP, President Emmanuel Macron, warning of a potential “civil war,” will see his Prime Minister Gabriel Attal of the centrist Renaissance party debate against Jordan Bardella of the far-right National Rally RN and Manuel Bompard of the left-wing France Unbowed.
Polling ahead of Sunday’s first round shows the RN in the lead with 36 percent support, followed by the left-wing New Popular Front at 29.5 percent, and Macron’s camp trailing at 20.5 percent. Despite Macron’s warnings, some political analysts believe the debate is unlikely to sway voters, with opinions already firmly established.
