The newly crowned undisputed world heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, has announced his decision to vacate the International Boxing Federation IBF title just weeks after his historic victory.
The 37-year-old Ukrainian made history by becoming the first heavyweight to simultaneously hold the IBF, World Boxing Organization, World Boxing Association, and World Boxing Council belts after defeating Tyson Fury in a split-decision match in Saudi Arabia last month.
According to AFP, due to contractual obligations for a rematch with Tyson Fury, Usyk is unable to defend the IBF crown against interim champion and mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois.
In a social media video, Usyk addressed Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, stating, “I know the IBF title is important to you. It is my present to you on September 21.” Following Usyk’s decision, Daniel Dubois is now set to face Anthony Joshua in what could potentially be a fight for the vacant IBF title at Wembley Stadium in September.
