The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, has halted all expenditures by Governor Siminalayi Fubara until he presents the 2024 budget.
During the plenary session, Monday, the House noted the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum given to Fubara to present his budget, following a motion by Leader Major Jack.
Consequently, the Assembly voted to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account, preventing any state spending by Fubara’s administration.
This action comes amid a political crisis involving the governor’s loyalists and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, with the Assembly accusing Fubara of breaching the 1999 Constitution.
