The Kano State Police Command has transferred 76 suspects, including a foreign national, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for investigation into sedition charges related to the recent protests involving Russian flags.
According to State Police Commissioner Salman Garba, the suspects were apprehended at different locations across Kano metropolis and found in possession of 25 Russian flags.The Nigerien national believed to be responsible for sewing the flags was also arrested.
Since the onset of the nationwide hunger protests, the Kano police have arrested a total of 873 suspects. Of these, 600 have been prosecuted for various offenses including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, riot, theft, mischief, and arson.
The police have also recorded significant recoveries, including two AK-47 rifles and substantial properties looted from government and public facilities such as the Audu Bako Secretariat, NCC Office, High Court Complexes, Kano Printing Press, and supermarkets.
Commissioner Garba stated that the police have remained resolute in protecting lives and property, citing the arrest of suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, car theft, human trafficking, and drug dealing. He urged residents to support security efforts by providing information to aid investigations.
The police chief assured the public of a continued visible presence in and around Kano to maintain law and order. He also appealed to parents to monitor their children’s conduct, warning that troublemakers would be arrested and prosecuted
