A boat accident that occurred on Sunday evening in Dundaye community, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has claimed the lives of four persons, according to Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The incident involved 24 individuals, with 19 rescued and one body recovered initially. Rescue operations continued on Monday, leading to the recovery of three additional bodies. As of now, one person remains missing, and efforts are still underway to locate them.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but boat mishaps are not uncommon in the area due to factors such as overloading, poor maintenance, and adverse weather conditions. NEMA and other relevant authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are providing support to the victims and their families.
