The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the number of new voters registered ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States. According to INEC, Edo State has 119,206 new voters, while Ondo State has 58,708.
These figures do not include applications for transfers within the states, as those are already accounted for in the existing voter register. Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated that the comprehensive final register of voters for the elections will be released in the coming days.
The analysis of new voters, detailing their distribution by local government areas, gender, age, occupation, and disability, has been made available on INEC’s website and social media platforms.The gubernatorial elections for Edo and Ondo States are scheduled for September 21 and November 16, 2024, respectively.
INEC has emphasized the importance of voter registration and participation in the electoral process as the elections approach.
