The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has told the Code of Conduct Tribunal that he was not guilty of false asset declaration charges leveled against him.
Onnoghen, who appeared before the Tribunal for the first time was granted bail by the tribunal.
Onnoghen is facing trial on six counts of alleged false assets declaration.
He was charged by the federal government after he was found culpable by the Code of Conduct Bureau which received a petition from an ally of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari then suspended the chief justice despite the opposition of many Nigerians including the Nigerian Bar Association which argued that the president has no such powers to suspend the head of another branch of government.
