The Independent National Electoral Commission has cautioned politicians over comments that could overheat the polity.
INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja also said the Commission had settled all issues relating to deliveries of all sensitive materials adding that political stakeholders were also conducted round the Central Bank of Nigeria’s facilities were kept to verify before they were dispatched.
While responding to the alleged arrest of one of the Nat Commissioners of INEC, Yakubu said the report was false as the particular commissioner was at his office discharging his duty as at the time of the briefing on Tuesday. When he was asked to respond to President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that death penalties await election riggers as well as his accusation that the Commission was incompetent, the INEC Chairman said the position of the electoral act is that ‘election violators should be punished while adding that the commission will continue to guide the democracy in the best way possible”.
He also announced that the numbers of PVCs collected will be announced on Wednesday.
