The Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA), in its observation report has said the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections were characterized by logistical and operational challenges.
The group, led by former President of Zambia, Rupiah Banda noted that voting commenced at least one to one and half hours late in all the polling units where the EISA observers were deployed.
The group also observed the ‘inefficiencies’ on the side of the adhoc-staff recruited for the voting exercise saying “the staff did not demonstrate that they had been adequately trained, as they were not very familiar with the stipulated procedures”.
According to Banda, the team observed incidents of violence and intimidation that led to loss of lives and property and injuries.
