Moghalu Rejects Presidential Election Result

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) and her presidential candidate- Prof Kingsley Moughalu- have rejected the results of the just-concluded Presidential election in Nigeeria as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday morning.

The party accused both the PDP and APC of manifest electoral malpractices stating that rejection of the results was a decision made after careful assessment of available facts and proper consultations with stakeholders.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, . Martins Egbeola, the YPP condemned the killing of 40 Nigerians in several states across the country by political thugs and bandits. There was also flak for the INEC and its chairman- Prof Mahmood Yakubu- by the YPP who accused the electoral umpire of learning nothing from the circumstances that led to the postponement of the polls on the 16th of February. The spokesperson lambasted INEC’s ill-preparedness for the polls, calling the 2019 presidential and national assembly elections- “one of the worst in our recent political history.”

The party called for calm and encouraged Nigerians to go about their legitimate business without fear of intimidation- warning the presidential candidate of the PDP- Alhaji Atiku Abubakar- not to engage in self-help by forming a parallel government as being canvassed in some quarters. The YPP advised atiku to instead employ the instrumentality of the law in seeking redress against whatever electoral injustice he may have suffered at the polls.

There were however words of praise for the Nigerian people, the party’s presidential candidate- Prof Moughalau- and the senator-elect for Anambra South- Ifeanyi Uba- who was elected on the party’s platform.
