Police have blamed governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State for quoting ‘wrong’ casualty figures in the recent attack at Kajuru Local Government area of the state.
The Police Commissioner in the State,Ahmad Abdulrahman said it warned the governor against citing any figure until an investigation has been concluded to ascertain the number of those killed.
According to him, investigations were at the preliminary stage and it mwasn’t possible to give exact toll until all bodies are recovered.
He explained that recovery efforts were hampered because of the area being difficult to access with vehicles
The Commissioner said the police are still investigating and won’t quote or confirm any figure until their probe is concluded.
Governor El-Rufai, on February 15 had announced that 66 people were killed by “criminal elements” in various dispersed hamlets in Kajuru Local Government.
He however said the death toll had risen to 130 after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari during the week.
In another announcement after an extensive meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and service chiefs on February 19, the governor said the death toll had risen to 130.
