Following Atiku Abubarkar’s outcry that several key associates of his- including his lawyer and son-in-law- were being hounded by the security agencies, there appears to be no let up as the deputy director general of his campaign team in charge of administration- Taminu Turaki- was on Monday picked up by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The opposition party’s –national publicity secretary- Kola Ologbondiyan- Turaki’s arrest and detention are all part of an elaborate plot by the ruling All progressives Congress to cow leading PDP officials into silence with a view to making the party soft pedal on its avowed determination to reclaim what it called “its stolen” mandate using the instrumentality of the courts.
The PDP called for the immediate release of Turaki and all other persons detained by the security agencies in connection with the disputed February 23rd presidential election.
Ologbondiyan argued that the APC and her leading officials are fighting an already lost battle as the party would not waver in her commitment to deploy every available legal tool its armory to ensure that justice and the mandate of the electorates restored to its rightful owners.
After the election that saw the return of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a number of high-ranking PDP officials have been picked up and detained by various security organizations in the country.
Some of the PDP officials earlier arrested include the party’s campaign spokesman, Buba Galadima, Babalele Abdullahi and Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie- all close associates of the former vice president.
