Card readers meant for Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly Elections in Akwa-Ibom State were burnt in a fire incident at the INEC Office in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, it was reported that the fire incident started around 2 a.m on Friday.
While the resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Mike Igini had visited the scene to ascertain the extent of the damage, it is unclear how the incident would affect the conduct of the elections.
It would be recalled that on the 15th of February, Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs killed two people at an INEC office in same Akwa Ibom state.
Many vehicles were also burnt in the incident after some thugs attacked where party agents and supporters waited for the delivery of sensitive materials from the state capital Uyo.
