After the fatal crash of one of its planes in Ethiopia this past Sunday in which all 157 passengers and crewmen lost their lives, things appear to be going farther south for airline manufacturer- Boeing- as another 737 plane operated by Air Transat of Canada and bound for Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been forced to divert to New York due to a fire in the cargo hold.
The troubled aircraft had to be evacuated on the runway with passengers escaping on the emergency slides. This caused all runways to be shut down as firefighters battled the blaze.
There were no casualties however as the New York Port Authority issued a statement quickly informing agitated relatives that the plane landed safely. It went on to add that passengers were evacuated on the runway via the chutes and bused to the terminal while the decision of what to do next was entirely the airline’s.
