The Spectator Index, a global firm that tracks numerical data and World polls has ranked Nigeria top in the list of countries with the highest population in the World in the last 20 years.
The data, released on Thursday showed that Nigeria, with about 200 million population (according to United Nations Estimates) has grown by 72% followed by Saudi Arabia (69%) and Egypt (55%).
According to United Nations, Nigeria population is equivalent to 2.6% of the total world population.
UN also projected that if the country’s population growth remains unchecked, Nigeria will become the third most populous country in the world in 31 years’ time.
The United Nations projected that by 2050, Nigeria’s population would leapfrog that of the US to queue behind India and China.
