Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has cast his ballot in the ongoing governorship and state house of assembly elections. President Obasnajo voted at Polling Unit 022, Ward 11 in Abeokuta North LGA of Ogun State Nigeria.
Soon after he cast his ballot, the Balogun of Owu was accosted by newsmen to share his views on the conduct of the elections, but rather than speak to the crowd of reporters, the army general simply gave a wry smile and said, “no comment,” before stepping into a waiting vehicle which quickly drove him away.
Olusegun Obasanjo was Nigeria’s military head of state between 1976 and 1979 when he handed over power to the democratically-elected Shehu Shagari. He would stage a comeback in 1999 as the country’s democratically elected ruler following the return of civil rule in the country. Since handing over power to Umaru Musa Yaradua in 2007, Chief Obasanjo has remained an active and sought-after commentator on national issues.
