The UK High Commission in Nigeria has sounded a note of warning to individuals and groups that are in the habit of inciting electoral violence- even on social media- across Nigeria that they may face some difficulties obtaining a travel visa to the United Kingdom henceforth.
The High Commission in a recent publication encouraged Nigerians to come out in large numbers this Saturday to vote in their choice candidates for various houses of assembly and governorship positions in their respective states.
The UK office in Nigeria expressed the hope that the Independent National Electoral Commission- INEC- had addressed some of the logistics hiccups that impeded the conduct of the last presidential and national assembly elections.
The Commission also condemned the reported acts of violence in several parts of the country and called on the authorities to see that the perpetrators are dealt with according to the prescriptions of the law.
While commending the bravery of some of the INEC officials and members of the NYSC who discharged their patriotic duties without let or hindrance, the UK promised to send observer teams across polling units in several states of the federation for Saturday’s polls as part of their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s democracy.
