The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II has praised the Kano State Police Commissioner – Muhammad Wakili – for restoring public confidence in the Nigerian Police in view of his leadership and conduct during last Saturday’s governorship and state house of assembly polls in the North Western state. The police commissioner has been showered with immense praises by Nigerians on social media for standing his ground and refusing to be manipulated by political forces into taking sides in Saturday’s elections.
Emir Sanusi who addressed a press conference at his palace in Kano Tuesday afternoon called for calm and cautioned against rumour mongering which he said could endanger the peace of the city.
The Independent National Electoral Commission- INEC- has declared the Kano election inconclusive and suspended the collation of results. INEC’s decision to announce the polls inconclusive has been criticised by the Peoples Democratic Party- describing it as an attempt to rob the party of its “mandate.”
Emir Sanusi was however of the view that INEC was within its constitutional rights to declare the elections inconclusive. He called on the people to exercise restraint and await further communications from the electoral umpire.
