Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has won another suit challenging his victory in the May 2018 governorship election in the state.
A former governor of the State, Segun Oni, who also contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship primary with Fayemi had approached the Supreme Court to unseat him on the ground that he did not resign his appointment as Minister before the primary was conducted.
He also said, based on Justice Silas Oyewole commission of inquiry set up by former Governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, Fayemi had been barred from vying for political offices in the State.
However, the Supreme Court ruled that Oni’s appeal was statute-barred.
The Court held that the case, being a pre-election one, was not commenced at the trial court, within the required time, as stipulated under the Forth Alteration Act.
