Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State has said despite the menacing effect of banditry and kidnapping in the state, the Local Government election in the state would go ahead as planned.
The State Electoral Commission has fixed April 27 for the conduct of the election.
The state is currently facing serious security challenges, which led to the deployment of soldiers and other security agents to confront bandits and kidnappers who had killed more than 3,000 people.
The Governor said that the state was ever ready to support the commission to conduct free, fair and peaceful council elections.
The tenure of office of the 14 local government chairmen had expired on Jan. 2, but was extended to May 2 by the State House of Assembly.
