Following the conviction of Justice Walter Onnoghen by the Code of Conduct Tribunal over his non declaration of assets, the National Judicial Council has removed his name from its members’ list.
Punch reports that his removal from the list was in preparation for appointment of a substantive CJN.
The list, displaying 23 members instead of the full membership of 24, shows that the council has yet to have a deputy chairman as constitutionally provided.

It was observed that Justice Onnoghen’s name has now been added to the list of former chief justices in Nigeria on the NJC’s Website.
Onnoghen had last week challenged his conviction by the CCT but he has not made his purported retirement official.
