Robert Azibaola, a cousin to Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has been discharged and acquitted of the $40 million fraud charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court in its ruling said the EFCC failed to failed to prove its claim of money laundering against Azibaola.
EFCC had in its charges alleged that the former President’s cousin received the $40m from the detained former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, without any contract agreement.
However, the court held that EFCC in handling its case did not call nor charge former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, who is very central in the government’s case along with Azibaola.
The court had in 2018 struck out seven charges leveled against Azibaola, his wife Stella and their company, One-Plus Holding.
