Motorists using the Keffi-Abuja highway into the city centre had to deal with gridlock as troops took positions at different areas of the road, conducting checks.
The troops were deployed at Mararaba Junction at checkpoints on the boundary between FCT and Nasarawa state, as well as Nyanya, Kugbo and AYA overhead bridge. They subjected motorists to checks.
The checkpoints, set up in the early hours, resulted in a traffic build-up and civil servants residing in areas like Masaka, Mararaba, Karu, Jikwoyi, Keffi were late for work.
The Nigerian Army did not offer any reason for the troops’ action.
All efforts to get the army spokesman to comment was unsuccessful.
