Abike Dabiri-Erewa claimed that some foreign airlines needed to comply with baggage identification because all cases recorded where drugs were found came from two international airlines.
Dabiri-Erewa, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, was speaking at a Senate adhoc committee looking at the circumstances that led to the arrest of Zainab Aliyu in Saudi Arabia in December last year.
She said that Egypt Air and Ethiopian Airlines needed to comply with baggage identification regulations.
She also revealed that there were no scanners at Aminu Kano International Airport were configured to detect drugs.
Zainab was arrested after a banned drug Tramadol was planted in her bag at Aminu Kano International Airport.
Chairperson of the committee, Sen. Kabiru Gaya, said that the NDLEA officials should increase the number of sniffer dogs in all the international Airports across the country to a significant figure to help detect drugs.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency disclosed that there were only 14 sniffer dogs stationed in Lagos, none were stationed at Aminu Kano. The agency also disclosed that searches had been pruned due to public complaints.
