Minister of Transport, Rotimi Ameachi has told the people of the South East Nigeria to shelve the idea of producing the next President in 2023.
Ameachi said the region did not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 Presidential election hence it cannot demand the presidency slot.
Ameachi, in an exclusive interview with Sun Newspaper said if Igbos had voted for President Muhammadu Buhari, they would have had the moral right to demand for Igbo Presidency in 2023.
“I don’t know what they will do now for voting against the APC.
“For refusing to support the APC, they cannot come to the table to demand the presidency slot.
“For people like us in the APC, if the Igbo had come and voted Buhari, they would boldly tell Mr President and the National Chairman of the party that presidency should go the Southeast since the South-south; South-west and North-west have produced president. What argument would the Southeast come up with now to convince anybody that they deserve the slot for 2023 president?”
Ameachi advised that the Igbos must set up a political structure where they’ll can achieve a common front on national politics.
The South East region which comprise people of Igbo ethnic group (one of the major ethnic group in Nigeria) had not produced the President since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.
