Following the ban of Former Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia over alleged match fixing and bribery, more facts have emerged how a self confessed match-fixer, Raj Perumal purportedly aided Nigeria’s Qualification to the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa.
Nigeria beat Kenya 3-2 in Nairobi to top the Group with 12 Point, while Mozambique surprisingly defeated Tunisia 1-0 to leave the latter with 11 point.
Explaining his role, Perumal in a documentary by Aljazeera stated that he had approached the Mozambiqan officials with a promise of $100,000 to defeat Tunisia while he also met two members of the Kenyan National team to ensure that Nigeria win Nairobi.
“I got to meet officials of the Nigerian football federation through a Nigerian football agent, Odira Sylvester Ezeh. I had invited the national team before to Malaysia for the Intercontinental Cup.”
“I told them I’ll make sure I do everything to make Nigeria qualify for the World Cup in 2010, as I’ve got two to three players in the Kenyan team that are ready while my company will give Mozambique $100,000 for getting a positive result against Tunisia in Maputo.”
Perumal however said he was angry as the two goals scored by Kenya made him lose millions as he had staked a bet that Nigeria was going to win by 2 goal difference.
Also, documents in his possession had names of former NFF officials, like former Head, International Competition, Dr Muhammed Sanusi.
The Documentary also showed a picture of Perumal and Samson Siasia together.
It was reported that the match between Nigeria and Kenya was fraught with irregularities as the second goal by Yakubu Aiyegbeni was from an offiside position.
