President Buhari on Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly gave his keynote address centred on climate change, poverty eradication, the P&ID scandal, among many others.
He said that while the world grew richer, millions in third world countries remain in abject poverty. He added that there is a strong need to eradicate poverty. He noted that Nigeria, in particular, has adopted the National Social Investment Programme which is targeted at the poorest and most vulnerable households in the country.
Buhari said that Nigeria supports the international community in observing the agreement binding the carbon emission standards which was signed in 2015. Through that, two sovereign Green Bonds have been issued, as well as increasing our total forest coverage by 6.7% through collective national efforts.
However, the president said Nigeria is tackling with the P&ID scandal head-on by giving notice to international criminal groups and prosecution of the P&ID scam who attempt to cheat the country out of billions of dollars while bent on fighting corruption and other related crimes in the country.
