Buhari Has no Agenda at UNGA-PDP

President Buhari on Sunday afternoon departed Abuja to attend the 74th Session of United Nations General Assembly in New York.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari is attending the United Nations General Assembly with no objectives or plans to attract benefits to the nation.

Buhari was accompanied to New York by Governors Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi and Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun States; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Environment, Dr Muhammad Mahmoud; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed; and Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, amongst others.

However, the PDP said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said Buhari did not define his agenda on how he intended to use the UNGA platform to attract tangible benefits to the nation.

“Is it not lamentable that while other leaders are heading to the meeting with well-articulated national proposals that will boost their nations’ competitiveness on international engagements, the Buhari Presidency is going empty with zero capacity to engage; a clear signal that it will equally return empty?”

“In over four years of this administration, the Buhari Presidency has not been able to harness opportunities presented by such important events despite huge resources deployed for attendance,” PDP said.

The PDP said while his Ghanian counterpart, Nana Akufo-Ado returned from the recently concluded 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), with a deal with automobile giant, Toyota, President Buhari returned back to country empty-handed.

“Our party also urges Mr. President to address the world on reported issues of violations of human rights, disregard to the rule of law and constitutional order, disobedience to court orders, arbitrary arrest and detention of citizens, extrajudicial killings, impunity and swelling corruption under his watch,” the party said.

Aside the PDP, other critics of government have also been questioning the President for his ”his failure to attract investors” despite series of conferences/summits he had attended.
