President Muhammadu Buhari has removed the embattled Head of Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, from office. In her stead, Folashade Yemi-Esan has been named as the acting Head of Service of the Federation (HoS).
The removal of Oyo-Ita was a tactic meant to allow her to undergo investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Vanguard, the removal of Oyo-Ita followed the acceptance of the EFCC’s report, which submitted its finding on the embattled HOS only on the evening of Tuesday to the Presidency.
Previously, Oyo-Ita had opted to resign immediately in August following the EFCCs probe on her over the allegation of her involvement in contract scam and knowledge of how project cash of 600M was being kept away by her Aide, although she denied all the allegations.
In the statement last night, the Presidency asked Oyo-Ita to proceed on indefinite leave to ‘allow for the conclusion’ of the investigation being carried out on her by the EFCC.
Although the report of the EFCC was not made public, a source told vanguard last night that the Presidency would not return Oyo-Ita to the office but had given her a ‘soft-landing’ by quietly easing her out of the public space based on interventions from various quarters.
