IMN Protests Turn Bloody, 1 Minor, 2 others Killed in Kaduna

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria, (IMN) has gone ahead with its processions in Abuja, Kaduna and other cities despite warnings by the Police and the Department of State Security Services (DSS).

The Shiites Group were spotted at Wuse carrying out their annual Ashura procession.

The Ashura procession is an annual religious ritual carried out by the Shia Islamic sect all over the world on September 10.

It was gathered that the Abuja procession by the movement commenced by 8:00am and lasted for 25 minutes to avoid a clash with the security operatives.

While there was traffic gridlock at the area where the procession was held, no casualty was recorded.

However, the procession as gathered was bloody in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Niger and Sokoto States.

A member of IMN, who simply identified himself as Abdullahi told Rootstv Nigeria on telephone that a minor and two others were shot at by the Police during the procession in Kaduna State.

“It was peaceful in Abuja but three of our members including a minor were killed by the Police in Kaduna. Also, in Gombe, we lost one of our members to Police gun shot.

“In Sokoto, we lost 1, same in Suleja and in Bauchi, about 3 of our members were killed by the Police” Abdullahi said.

Police and the Department of State Security Services (DSS) had warned against the processions saying it would be treated as act of terrorism.

Federal Government had in July secured a Court order banning activities of the IMN Group.

Clashes between security forces and movements have claimed many lives with the recent one leading to the death of young journalist, Precious Owolabi and a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Usman Umar.
