Since April, the monkeypox virus has claimed two lives in Cameroon, with six confirmed cases and 40 more suspected, according to a statement from the health ministry on Wednesday.
The World Health Organization declared an international emergency over mpox four weeks ago, following a surge in cases of the Clade 1b strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has since spread to neighboring countries.
By the end of last month, mpox had been reported in 14 African nations.
