The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, briefed the Senate on the efforts of security agencies to tackle insecurity, following a request from Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Ribadu noted that 20 gun-running networks were demobilized and over 5,000 military-grade weapons seized and destroyed.
He mentioned that kidnapping and banditry have translated into economic crimes due to pressure from security agents. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, stated that the air component complemented ground troops, mentioning the elimination of key bandit leaders.
While the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun, spoke about rooting out criminals in Abuja suburbs and checkmating activities of one-chance criminals in the capital city. The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, was urged to expedite the release of funds for security operations.
